The right kit on a misty damp dayHaving the right clothing, food, water and comfortable footwear will help you enjoy your day.

On some walks, waterproofs and walking boots are mandatory. As a general guide for clothing on the hill, avoid cotton clothing, especially jeans, and try to have lots of layers that you can take off and put on easily.  Please contact me if you have any questions about the outdoor clothing etc.

Some items are available to borrow on request.

What is included:
Hire of Mountain Leader and group safety equipment for the walks.
If you prefer not to drive, smaller groups can be collected from accommodation in Whiting Bay, Lamlash, Brodick or Corrie. Transport for larger groups can be provided at cost. I can also arrange packed lunches using local suppliers at cost. (There is nothing like a  Wooley's fruit slice for mountain walking!). Please let me know in advance if your require transport or lunch.

Full terms and conditions.

What to bring: The weather on Arran can be changeable and it is important to be well equipped. It can also be considerably cooler near the summits than at sea level. These kit lists are for an average day in summer conditions. If you require advice on equipment please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Some equipment may be available to borrow.

If you would like to purchase some equipment for your trip:

I am happy to advise on equipment purchases but often it is best to go to a specialist outdoor retailer who really knows their stuff!

Arran Active logoArran Active is a deceptively well stocked outdoor shop situated at Cladach, Brodick, on the isle of Arran.   There isn't an online shop (yet) but there is a website and you can contact the shop by telephone: 01770 302416.

Up and Under logoAlternatively, you may choose to purchase your gear before you arrive, in which case I can recommend Up and Under Outdoor Gear, in Cardiff.  They have a huge website full of fantastic kit, brilliant speedy service, and the staff are very helpful on the phone: 02920 578579.

 Leave the Car At Home
Leave the car at home!

Why not leave the car at home and come by train? Arran is easy to access by public transport and the ferries meet trains and buses. If you come for the day, I can meet you at the ferry terminal. If you are staying on the island, I can collect you from accommodation in Whiting Bay, Lamlash, Brodick or Corrie.
