Personal Equipment for Guided Walks
Having the right clothing, food, water and comfortable footwear will help you enjoy your day.  On some walks, waterproofs and walking boots are mandatory. As a general guide for clothing on the hill, avoid cotton clothing, especially jeans, and try to have lots of layers that you can take off and put on.

What is included?

Hire of Mountain Leader and safety equipment for the walks. If you require transport to the start of the walk or packed lunches these can be booked in advance and supplied at cost.

What should I Bring?

The weather can be changeable and it is important to be well equipped. It can also be considerably cooler near the summits than at sea level. These kit lists are for an average day in summer conditions. If you require advice on equipment please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Some equipment may be available to borrow.

Buying Equipment

If you decide that you wish to buy new outdoor equipment for your visit to Arran you will find that there is an excellent specialist outdoor shop called Arran Active, which is situated by the brewery, at Cladach near Brodick.  The shop doesn't have a website (yet) but is contactable by telephone: 01770 302416.

Alternatively, you could buy your gear before you arrive, in which case I can thoroughly recommend Up and Under Outdoor Gear, in Cardiff.  They have a huge website full of fantastic kit, brilliant speedy service, and the staff are very helpful if you phone up: 02920 578579.

RSPB Walks
As well as bespoke guided walks for private groups on Arran I also work as the local information officer for RSPB Scotland.

These events, and others offered by my colleagues can be found on the online Arran Wildlife Events Calendar!
