Enjoying the natural environment in a responsible way is essential to protecting and preserving the beautiful and wild landscape of Arran.
Sharing best practice, highlighting conservation issues and working to reduce carbon emissions are just some of the ways that I use my business in ways that promote positive action for the environment.
- Responsible Wildlife Watching: As a member of Wild Scotland I am committed to
delivering a first class wildlife watching experience in a sustainable and responsible way. This includes sharing best practice about watching wildlife, and setting the highest standards on all wildlife and walking excursions. Wild Scotland's Code of Conduct
- Conservation and Learning: By enjoying wildlife, mountains and wild places, it is possible to deepen our understanding of our place in nature and how we impact upon fragile ecosystems. My guided walks aim to be not only exciting and entertaining but also inform about local conservation initiatives, threats to wildlife and habitats, and what we as individuals can do to help.
- Donations to Arran Access Trust: The Arran Access Trust works to maintain access
to the Arran landscape whilst minimising erosion and environmental damage through footpath work. It promotes the Hillphones Service, consults regularly with community stakeholders and aims to protect sensitive sites from overuse. £1 from every mountain walk booking or full day's wildlife guiding is donated to the Arran Access Trust.
- Reducing carbon emissions: The tourism industry as a whole has a huge part to play in cutting carbon emissions and I am constantly looking at ways that I can reduce the environmental impact of guided walks and excursions. Smaller groups are transported using a Skoda Roomster- one of the most fuel efficient mpvs on the market. Visitors are encouraged to leave their vehicle on the mainland, and bus services employed for linear walks. In the office, everything is recycled where possible and paper use is reduced. There is always room for improvement and carbon reduction is an ongoing process as technology comes our way!
